avi to CD R

I am using win xp and wish to put an avi file on to a cd
r so i can watch it on my DVD using movie maker.The file
is on a 700mb disc and i am trying to put it on a 7000MB
disc but i am told there is not enoough room .I am new to
this so am prob not doing it right.Thank you.
 
If you wish to watch the result on a standalone DVD player, then you need to
burn a VCD or SVCD.... a standalone DVD player CANNOT understand an AVI
file.

Just like a floppy drive being 1.44mb but only being able to hold just over
1.mb of data, you're forgetting that a 700mb CD cannot hold 700mb when it's
formatted... and a DVD, whether + or - R, doesn't hold 4.7gb, but more like
4.3gb.

If you want to make a VCD or SVCD, you'll have to use third party
software... see www.dvdrhelp.com

Your DVD player must also support the ability to read CD-R discs as well as
VCD playback support.
