Automatic Updates question - delete automatic updates cache??

Here is the scenario:

We install the required updates manually via service pack or other means.

The automatic updates has already downloaded them and is prompting for them
to be installed even though we've already installed them. Is there a way to
clear automatic updates cache of downloaded files so that it has to
re-assess the situation and only download what is actually missing from the
system?
