I am on xp Pro sp2. I'm also running Norton Internet Secruty for those
interested.

I recently installed the XP Pro - upgrading to sp2. I have been attemting
to install software. I had been able to install software - I have office
2000 installed, etc... I was attempting to intall Acrobat 5.0.5 and it kept
hanging up on 'creating acrobat distiller printer'. OK fine - thought I
would keep going and come back to that later. I started to intall studio
..net 2003 and had to go to the 'pre requisites' to install some software.
The first one, 'runtime scripts' I think, never completed. I had to stop the
installation and re-boot. The next time I tried installing .net. I had to
once again do the pre-requisite. Amazingly, the 'runtime script' was no
longer required. It started installing the .net framework 1.1. Fact is,
it's still 'installing' as I write this. It occurred to me that the common
thread is that none of these installation goes to completion! You know, the
'xxxx successfully installed'.

Anybody have similar experiences - suggestions - whatever?

Unfortunately, I think it is too late. The best thing would have been to
avoid installing SP2. I believe Microsoft was very premature in releasing
this!

So... I reinstall XP Pro - is sp1 OK to upgrade to? what about critical
security updates?

(Is anyone having problems getting off of Microsoft web page today or is it
just me?)
