I get an application error when I close my browser after
I opened it by clicking on a link in my Weather Channel
program. I do not get this error message when I open my
browser manually and close.
iexplore.exe Application Error
The instruction at "0x012c40dd" referenced memory
at "0x012c40dd". The memory could not be "read". Click on
OK to terminate program.

This just started happening- no changes to my system
lately.
I am also having a problem with my home page and
favorites. My home page doesn't always load- if I
refresh, then it will come up.
And when I open favorites and click on one of them, the
window title changes as if the browser went to the site,
but the page never loads.
Can someone help me solve these issues??
Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi tammyb :-)

It is likely you have parasites, spyware, adware, malware, or hijackware on
your system causing the problem, which your antivirus will not detect, as it
does not have the same definitions. Download and install, then you *MUST*
update the programs prior to running to be sure they have the latest
definitions, then run the programs below. They are free and very effective.
Be sure to run both SpyBot and Adaware, as what one does not detect the
other may. It is important that you follow all directions carefully:

You can go to the links below to check your system for parasites
http://aumha.org/a/noads.htm
http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/parasite.htm

IMPORTANT:
Before trying to remove spyware, download a copy of LSPFIX from
the URL below - some malware may kill your internet connection when it is
removed, this program will enable you to regain your connection.
http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm

It is important that you run the programs in the order that they are listed
here. The first three programs will clear your machine of all other items so
that you can have a clear HiJackThis Log for the experts to read and analyze
for you.

(NOTE: If you can not download these programs from the Internet, if your PC
has CD read capabilities, go to another computer with CD-ROM burning
capabilities. Create a folder on the hard drive of the other computer called
HOLD, download the programs to that folder, then burn that folder to a CD.
Copy the HOLD folder to your HD and then install the programs from there
and run them. After you have IE access again, update all programs where
possible to get the latest definitions and run them again to be sure there
are no lingering items on the system.

Most of what it lists will be harmless or even required, so DO NOT fix
anything yet.

Open a the copy of your log in NotePad and made a copy. Then you can go here
to post you log:

Go to the HiJackThis section on the forum list and click to open. You can
post as a guest. It's also a good site to keep for reference. The experts
there will analyze the log and report back the results. Please allow at
least a few hours or a days time for a response.

Remember, you must return to the HJT site to get your answer. It is a good
idea to click the "Notify" box so that you will get an electronic
notification by e-mail to let you know when a response has been posted.
But, you must still return to the site of your answer

I have Spybot and Ad-aware both of which I update
frequently and before every scan. I have run both these
programs now (tracking cookies found by each program) and
still have same problems.
After spyware or malware is removed from your system, do
the things that they have corrupted become magically
fixed or what? I don't understand this part of the
process- so I removed them from my system- how does this
fix the damage they have caused? Or do I have to fix it
myself?
So what is my next step? Do you suggest I try any other
programs besides Spybot and Ad-aware?
Again, thanks in advance for your help and time! :)

- Sorry for the other post, mousie got antsy. :-)

If you have not yet done so, please run all the other programs I provided.
It is important that you make sure all the different bugs on your system are
removed in order for your system to return to normal, or to eliminate them
as possible causes to facilitate troubleshooting. Normally, unless it is a
vicious virus or a coolwebsearch variant, inc., the programs remove the
items detected without any damage to your system. The problems you are
continuing to have may be due to some malware or other parasites that are
still on your system. Please run the other programs in addition to the
SpyBot and Adaware, as their definitions are not programmed to detect all
the various types of items. SpyBot finds spyware, AdAware finds adware.
Thus, there can be other problem items that need to be cleaned. Run and post
the HiJackThis log for analysis at the website provided. Then let us know
the results.

Thus far you've done a good job, now lets see what the rest finds, if
anything. :-)
