AMD cut a bite out of Intel's market share this quarter, according to a press release which came out today.
AMD showed global, year-to-year market share gains in some strategic segments in the second quarter of 2002:

- Among consumers buying Windows-based desktop and mobile computers for their homes, AMD's market share increased from 25 to 27 percent.

- Buyers of desktop and mobile computers in medium-sized and large businesses boosted AMD's market share from 14 to 15 percent in medium businesses (500-999 employees), and from 7 to 8 percent in large businesses (1,000 or more employees).

- AMD's market share of Windows-based government desktop and mobile computers grew from 16 to 18 percent.

- In the worldwide market for mobile computing processors across all segments, we doubled AMD's market share, from 6 to 12 percent.

AMD's total market share is currently evaluated at around 16%, and Intel's around 82%. Interesting to see AMD gaining some ground, considering the adverse economic conditions right now.
