I am presently running 2000 Pro sp4 with an AMD Duron 850
and a MSI MS-6378 ver 3 MB. I tried to upgrade to an AMD
Athlon 2200XP and windows would not boot. I got a blue
screen with the task bar at the bottom and nothing else.
I could not restart (START button did not respond)and
after many tries, had to reinstall the 850. Any ideas?
Thanks.

Your explorer.exe process isn't starting or is crashing, so it sounds.
[Re]install the latest service pack, and it may clear up the problem. You
can press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to bring up the task manager and then use File--New
Task... to launch applications, such as iexplore.exe to go and download the
service pack if you do not already have it downloaded. If you do already
have it downloaded, just browse to the setup file for it from that run
dialog and execute it.

Upgrade your power supply. Had the same problem going from an
Athlon 1133 to an XP2100 (also under Windows 2000). An Antec PS
solved it.

Ray - Thanks for the response. I tried your suggestions
and basically when I launch iexplore.exe from Task
Manager, it locks up at different places each time. Then
Task Manager locks up and I have to shut down and start
over. BUT, I have de - clocked the 1800MHz to 1350MHz (by
changing MB jumper from 133MHz to 100MHz) and it works
great. The original AMD 850 used 100MHz also. The memory
stick is a Kingston PC133. Any other suggestions are
greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Ray, thank you for your response. I tried your
suggestions, but it still locked up when I tried to launch
iexplorer.exe from task mgr. I tried several times and it
locked up at a different place each time, no consistency.
I then tried setting the clock to 100MHz with the 2200XP
and it worked great except the processor was only running
at 1350 instead of 1800. So, I "overclocked" it to 1620
and it works fine without locking up. Something is
happening when I try to increase the clock speed to 133
for the new processor. (the ols AMD850 used the 100MHz
clock also) I'm using a Kingston PC133/256 memory stick.
Any other ideas? Thanks again.
