Hi,
I am running win xp home and pro and both have this problem now. Both are at
SP1
The Dial up icons in network neighborhood disappeared.
If i try to create a new one with a name i used before it says that
connection already exists.
I cannot see it.
Also, The icon on the desktop that was created will dial up and I can access
the internet however there is no way to disconnect except to shut down
windows.

Please help.

Control Panel -> Network Connections. Can you see your dial-up there? If so, right-click and
create shortcut - it will be sent to your desktop. You can move/copy to quick launch as well.
Right-clicking the shortcut will give you the 'disconnect' option.

Have you checked out this article:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;812442

Dial-up connections are stored here:

"C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Network\Connections\Pbk"

in the file: "rasphone.pbk" (It's a text file you can view in notepad)

Check the permissions on the above folder & file.

On my computer, the security tab for 'rasphone.pbk' shows that 'Everyone' has the following
permissions:
Modify
Read & Execute
Read
Write

The security entries for the folder is more complex, but if you're unable to browse to it, that
would be a red flag :)

Good Luck & Post Back!
Keith

Are the entries you can't see
