after re-install, can't save .bmp files from the web

I can not save pic files from the web as .bmp, only
as .art or .jeg. Seems to me there was somethong I had
to do in order to save files as .bmp. Anyone know how?

That is the other way around - for the system insisting on bmp when the
file is actually jpg.

If it is not possible to save as bmp, then one possibility is a look
with regedit.exe at
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Mime\Database\ContentType\image/bmp

Look in the right pane - double click on Extension and set to
..bmp

and on Image Filter CLSID
and make sure it is set to
{607fd4e8-0a03-11d1-ab1d-00c04fc9b304}
