Advanced Tab Never Came Back

I uninstalled the Intel Application Accelerator. I expected to get back the
ability to enable DMA on the Advanced Tab in Properties for my Intel 8280
Ultra ATA Controller. The Advanced Tab is did not return. I checked to
make sure everything is current. The Drivers are version 2.3.0.2160 from
10/1/2002. These are installed as the most current drivers when I do an
update.

Any ideas?

Almost the right place to look for. The "Advanced" tab (incl. the DMA
settings) should appear in the Primary and Secondary IDE Channel's
properties (next level underneath the Intel 8280 Ultra ATA Controller)
in the device manager. "Device settings are hard to find in Windows XP"

Detlev,

True. I probably should have mentioned that I had looked in the Primary and
Secondary IDE Channels Properties. There was no Advanced tab.

I think I will put out a request for help from anyone with the Intel 850E
Chipset and the Intel 8280 1BA Ultra ATA Controller. Unfortunately, most
people with this configuration will be running the Intel Application
Accelerator which does not show the Advanced Tab. My system is slower since
I uninstalled the accelerator. However with it installed the Vista Upgrade
Advisor shows the ATA Controller as not compatible with Vista.

I have a support request in to Dell but have heard nothing.

Thank you for your suggestion,
Bill

Open the device manager and choose a different bus master from the list
of compatible devices. This *may* help, however, I did not try out since
removing the "Intel Application Accelerator" does not make any sense,
usually.

Same here regarding this particular machine. The "Advanced" tabs do not
appear anymore since the "Intel Application Accelerator" takes care of
the correct DMA settings anyway.

As long as you stick with Windows XP, there is no need to remove the
Intel Application Accelerator. If you want to upgrade to Vista, wait
until the final version will be released. Otherwise, you might be better
off when asking here:
