administrator account requires administrator

I've tried to install printer drivers a variety of ways, but always get a message that says Administrator Privileges are required even though I'm using the administrator account in Windows XP Pro. I've tried installing from CD, from downloaded file and by using the Add Printer Wizard. Tech support says its a Windows problem. I hope I don't have to do a clean install. Can anyone help?

thanks

We probably could help if you will post back with the make and model of
the printer.
