I have recently been given a works laptop running XP Home edition, which some joker had decided to change the admin account password. Another member of staff had spent an hour or so attempting to "guess" the password with no luck. I therfore used a linux boot disk to blank the admin account password. Now however when I try to log on, it seems to accept the password but states that the system cannot log me on due to a restriction. I have no other admin level account on this pc however I can log on with a limited account. Obviously this does not allow me the functionality I require to resolve the problem. Can anyone please assist, it really is doing my head in!

You need to boot into Safe Mode to use the Administrator
account in XP Home. To boot into Safe Mode:
1. Start up your computer
2. After the POST, press and hold F8 until a menu comes up.
3. If a list of operating systems comes up,
choose "Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition"
4. On the second menu, choose "Safe Mode"

Once you are in safe mode and log on with the
Administrator account, you can create another admin
account.
