I have posted this before but gotten nowhere, is it
because there is no way out or ??

I have a W2K server with AD on it I need to demote it but
it will not let me I tried dcpromo/forceremoval and it
still will not do it, it iether says it is not the last
server or is says it can not find a server to properly
demote it.

I don't have the time to spend backing up 1/2 tb of data
to redo the server and restore the data so my ultimate
question is can ad be removed through the registry or any
other way if dcpromo fails.

I sure hope there is!!

Why do I need to remove it you ask, well it is not our
domain name (bought the company but not the name) and
it wont let me add users, I think it is corrupt or the
previous admin messed it up on the day before we took
over.

thanks
Xavier

Also check out MS doc #255504. You need to first have this DC Seize all the
FMSO roles so that it can become the last DC. Also install DNS on to it so
it can find itself.
