i downloaded ad-aware as i was recommended it the first time i had this problem. it got rid of a decent amount of things on my computer but i'm still having some pop ups and my homepage is still the same setting as it was before i ran the software. everytime i change my homepage, it automatically goes back to blazefind.com and when i search for something on an engine i get results from 2020 and websearch which never came up before and won't stop. any ideas?

go to c:\windows\downloaded program files\

in here you will see lots of programs that get installed within Internet
Explorer, you can right click the ones you dont seem to know what they are
and remove them. If they don't uninstall then right click and delete them..
then reboot after you are done..

Don't worry, if you accidentally delete one that is required, next time you
are on net, they will ask you again to install. This little problem I
believe of apps being installed without your consent is/will be addressed I
believe in SP2

You need to download and run:
Spybot Search and Destroy - similar to Adaware but finds stuff Adaware
doesn't
http://www.safer-networking.org/ (use the update feature after installing)

Google Toolbar for IE - blocks popups
http://toolbar.google.com/

CWShredder - removes page hijacks
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4086.html

Before you run spybot and cwshredder, delete your temporary internet
files and internet history file.

Ad-aware is a good program, but u have a different problem. U have to remove that blazefind.com on this way..
Right click on Start and open Explore, under your hard-drive (C:) expand WINDOWS, expand system32, expand drivers
click on etc and on the right side u will see lmhosts. Right click on it and Open with... In the next window Select the program from the list, and click OK. Open with Notepad and OK. Now u will see a text ,read it and try to understand the meaning if u want, u will see some exapleslike this
# The following example illustrates all of these extensions

# 102.54.94.97 rhino #PRE #DOM:networking #net group's D
# 102.54.94.102 "appname \0x14" #special app serve
# 102.54.94.123 popular #PRE #source serve
# 102.54.94.117 localsrv #PRE #needed for the includ
At the end of the text u shouldn't have anything else, but I bet you'll see another IP address which would be your
blazefind.com ,delete it and before u close lmhosts file save it..
u should be OK, set ur home page again

If that doesn't work, a google search turned instructions for manual
removal at PestPatrol. I wouldn't necessarily recommned downloading and
running pest patrol, but you should be alright to do a manual removal if
you follow instructions carefully and back up your registry and create a
restore point before doing the manual removal.

Actually there should be a localhost address at the end of the file:

127.0.0.1 localhost

If that is not there then browser-based files (such as html
documentation files) on the local machine might not open in your web
browser.

Go to the Hijackthis forums here http://www.tomcoyote.com/forums/ There are
specialists there in removing and defending against this kind of intruder.
It involves registering then making a log file for them to analyze for you.
