hi guys,
I have been using a database at work on access 97 and we are
going over to 2003. I have access 2002 at home and was wondering if
converting the database to 2002 would give me an indication of whether it
would run fine on 2003. any ideas?
cheers

When you open the database in 200x, you will be asked to convert or not. If
you select convert, one of three things will happen.
1. It will convert successfully.
2. It will fail to convert, and it will tell you it failed.
or
3. It will fail to convert and NOT tell you it failed.
#1 and #2 are not dangerous, #3 is. If you have personally written much code
for your Access97 database it is likely it will not translate directly to
Access 200x. If the database is just a bunch of simple tables, queries, etc,
you are probably going to translate OK.
IMHO, from a developer point of view, Access97 is still a much better
product. That is, the development envirnment is much more user friendly in
97. I am assuming that microsoft will eventually have a new version that is
as good as the old, but they normally don't do that until they have sold you
a couple "upgrades" that conviently left out these features so they can
re-sell them in the future! SO, if you don't have the need for some feature
in 200x that just doesn't exist in 97, there is no reason to use a newer
version!
