I just replace the hard drive on a IBM R40 laptop. I installed Windows XP
pro using the Product Key on the bottom of the laptop.
When I tried to activate it said the Product Key was invalid.
I had to call 716-871-2929. The man who answered asked me for the first six
digits of the installation key. In the background there was lots of noise.
Phone quality was bad...like he was using a cordless and was losing signal
at times. He stopped listening and talking and started to argue with a woman
in the background. Eventually he asked for the first six digits again. He
put me on hold for a long time and eventually came back with an activation
key. Elapsed time of phone call was 21 minutes.
I am a Microsoft stockholder...but I don't expect to be for much longer.

What was he arguing about? Just kidding. I've only had to call to activate
once and it took about 5 minutes, but it was all automated.

MicroStock is no longer a growth stock, and besides the fact that their
are very few emerging markets for MicroGoods, one of the reasons why it
ain't a growth stock is the whole Activation BS.

Not only does it cost to develop and then to run the Activation
infrastructure, but Activation doesn't stop or even slow the growth of
REAL piracy at all. The Activation BS ends up costing MS stockholders
more than it will EVER bring in for ya'll.

And I haven't even yet mentioned consumer dissatifaction as a direct
result of Activation, and the problems it cause consumers, and MS was
never a very popular corporation to begin with, since most consumers
were never given any REAL choice but to buy a MS OS with their PC.

The BEST MS stockholders can expect is to maintain the status quo of
minimal growth, though more likely, MS stock prices will be slowly but
steadily declining over the next decade.

And why did you not call the 800 toll free number? At least the cost of calling India would have been less costly.

Maybe they can connect you to a complaint department. (LOL)

21 minutes is probably on the longer end of the spectrum. It usually takes
me less than five minutes. Your time is valuable, but I cannot imagine you
dumping any substantial shares of Microsoft over a 21-minute phone call. Did
you buy their stock becuase you like them, or because you wanted to invest
your money wisely?

Interesting....
I had to provide the entire product key, not just 6 digits. Took two
minutes to get the new activation key after I submitted the ENTIRE former
key..
My left leg is good now, can you pull the other?

That number is not an Indian one. How did you assume it was?

I did not assume. I myself is connected there all the time when I activate some of my clients computers. You are automatically transferred there. The call center is located in India

It was on a cell phone with free long distance.

You should have just hung up and then called back. To keep the PA
conversation a lot shorter, when asked why are you Activating Eindows XP
again? Cause its really their busines, no really!, just say you felt like
it. Don't get into new disks, replacement this and that, they'll only
question you like you need to satisfy their very own professional
satisfaction to qualify for activation.

Just wait until the Ministry of Sh!t is under the microscope again,
hopefully in a controversial way, you're bound to get better stock price
flucuations and sell when it's more befiicial to youself. Unless you'll get
a reasonable profit for yourself by selling now. The Pista hype[rbole] might
do it, could wait until then.
