Hi,
I have 2 PC's that are connected to each other and the internet through a
wireless router. USB network adapter to a Draytek Vigor 2600G. The network
connection is just to slow for one of the shared programs between the
computers so I would like to hardwire the 2 PC's together (they both have
the original network cards still installed) but allow both computers to
still access the internet through the wireless router.

I have tried adding a cross over cable between the two but when I do the
internet connection stops working. As soon as I disable the cross over
connection the internet works again.

I am guessing that it is to do with tcp/ip. Am i right in thinking that (on
one computer) both the network cards can use tcp/ip but need to be on
different IP's?I have tried having one card obtaining an IP address
automatically but this hasn't worked. I would also like to use an IP within
a certain range.

Any thoughts or instructions to allow this would be most appreciated.
Cheers
Leon

p.s. I seem to be able to use a 1394 network card without loosing the
connection with the other card installed and connected to the net?

Try:

1. Make sure you are using a genuine crossover cable and it is not
defective.

2. Configure TCP/IP on the ethernet adpaters manually. Make sure File and
Printer Sharing and NetBIOS over TCP/IP are enabled. Do not configure a
default gateway or DNS server. Do not use the same address range as the
wireless adapters - eg. use 10.0.0.1 for one and 10.0.0.2 for the other.

3. Right click on My Network Places and select Properties. Click
Advanced/Advanced Settings. Move the Local Area Connection for the ethernet
adapters to the top of the binding order. Do not bridge the connections.

4. On the Local Area Connection for the wireless adpaters, clear the check
box for File and Printer Sharing. Reboot both machines.

Thanks Doug,
So this should allow me the use of both adapters at the same time? One to
connect to the internet and other wireless computers and one to connect
directly to the 2nd machine that is also connected to the internet
wirelessly via a wireless router?
Cheers
Lenny

I didn't know there were 'other' wireless computers. In that case, you
would want to keep File and Printer Sharing on the Local Area Connection for
the wireless adapters. Probably the best thing to do is put the wireless
adapters at the top of the binding order. Then do not use My Network Places
to connect to the shared program server - use \\10.0.0.2 (or whatever its
ethernet adapter address is) or \\10.0.0.2\sharename. Once the Explorer
window opens, you can create a shortcut by right clicking on the computer
icon and selecting Create shortcut; or you could map a drive to its share.

Sorry about that. I need to try it in the morning when I get back into the
office.
I have managed to get the cross over to work before but the other adapter
stops connecting to the net. I hope this sorts it out. I will post back with
an update.
