Help! I corrupted the registry on my windows XP home
edition, and the computer refused to boot. Eventually, I
brought a windows XP professional edition, and installed
it on the same computer. I now have 2 operating systems
on this computer. The system that boots up is XP
Professional.

My questions: I had a lot of files on the home edition
OS. How can I move these files to the XP pro edition?

Also, how can I totally delete the XP home edition, once
I have migrated the files to Professional?

Thanks. I could really use the disk space!

your best bet is to back up your files on disks or cd's on on another
computer, then re-do your XP Pro installation, but this time, while you're
in XP setup, make sure to delete all partitions and re-create one. This
will wipe the whole system clean and will give you a fresh new one (but
it'll delete everything you have, so be sure to backup your files elsewhere)

Hi,

Boot your WinXP Pro installation, copy the files you want to keep from the
WinXP Home system user folders (you may need to take ownership for this, see
the below link). Then delete the WinXP Home system folders.

Afterwards, go to the Control Panel/System/Advanced tab, click on the
startup and recovery settings. Go to the edit button to open boot.ini and
remove the line that references the WinXP Home installation from the
[operating systems] section. Close saving changes.
