1394 camera not recognizded

I have a Texas Instruments OHCI compliant firewire card installed with XP Home. The OS recognizes the card just fine, but when I plug in the Dazzle Hollywood DV bridge, the bridge isn't recognized. The same thing happens with the Canopus ADVC-100. I would really like to make my home videos into DVD's. I'm having trouble finding anything anywhere that covers this problem. I don't know if the problem is with the firewire card or the OS.
