Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 - Ubisoft E3 2018 Showcase

Julian Gerighty, the Creative Director at Massive Entertainment (a Ubisoft studio) set the scene for The Division 2, saying “On Black Friday, a strain of the smallpox virus was released on dollar bills in New York City. The infection and chaos spread across the nation. Seven months later, the virus has mostly burnt itself out, but America is tearing itself apart. Washington D.C. is at the heart of this battle. Under constant threat from dangerous factions, civilians are trying to rebuild. In their survival lies the seed, the rebirth, or society.” Cue cinematic trailer:

The trailer shows a peaceful, quiet life within a compound, in stark contrast to the brutal dog-eat-dog world outside. The character you play is the last line of defence for the civilians, and in this game there is a strong focus on equipment and tactical abilities. You can pick a specialisation out of Sharpshooter, Demolitionist, or Survivalist. For the first time, up to eight people can team up to face the end game challenge, and it was also announced that Raids will be coming to The Division 2.

The Division 2 doesn’t launch until spring next year, but we did learn that three DLCs are currently planned for year one after the release (Episodes 1-3). Each will bring a new story and new areas to explore, and all will be totally free.
