Your current security settings prohibit running ActiveX controls on this page. A

I get this message below when loading a variety of
software such as Norton Firewall, Quickbooks, etc..

"Your current security settings prohibit running ActiveX
controls on this page. As a result, the page may not
display correctly."

I am in a Windows XP Pro & Office XP Pro XP environment
with the latest downloads. Obviously something I
installed negatively effectived my active X controls.

Has anyone seen this and does anyone have a fix?

Thanks,

Launch Internet Explorer.
1. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
2. Click the Security tab.
3. In the Select a Web content zone to specify its security settings box, click
Internet.
4. Under Security level for this zone, if the security level is set to High,
move the slider down to Medium.
If it is not possible for security concerns to move the slider to Medium, then
follow these steps:
1. Under Security level for this zone, click Custom Level. The Security Settings
dialog box appears.
2. Under the ActiveX controls and plug-ins subsection Download signed ActiveX
controls, click either Enable or Disable.
3. The computer will still be protected from unwanted intrusions while allowing
legitimate program operations to proceed.
4. Click OK to close the Security Settings dialog box. Click Yes if prompted to
confirm the change.
5. Click Apply, and then OK to close the Internet Options dialog box.

Thank you for the reply. I did those steps and I still get the message. Is there a possibility that I have to uninstall everything in my laptop and reinstall it? Lissa H

Are you by chance using Norton Internet Security?

I have Symantec Anti-Virus. I don't see anything showing the name Norton. I will appreciate any help you may be able to provide. Thank you, Lissa H

Thanks for that because I did not know. So, what does Norton have to do with me not being able to run ActiveX controls? I need help. Thanks! Lissa H

I think some Norton security settings that you might apply
may go further than you intend and block some controls and
web sites.

I took the Norton Antivirus 2003 off my computer, still got the same comment. Tried to put the Norton 2004 on, but it won't install. Any new thoughts?

Also the Norton statement is "Norton Antivirus (NAV) has encountered an internal program error. Unistall and reinstall NAV. 3005,584. NAV says the cause is either the digital signature of one of the program files has been damaged or a window service needed for NAV to run has failed to start.

I checked the window services and they say they are running.

Last one before work

I installed Netscape and it allowed me to look at the web sites I couldn't get into and I can now open my Word files (with a warning statement from NAV 3019,6), but NAV still gives the same error statements when I try to load it

For what it's worth, I hope this helps.

Just removing the software does not undo the changes it
made.

Thank you for your reply. I tried to download JAVA but the ...prohibit running ActiveX ... message came up again! I can't win.

I just got my laptop in December. Do you think I did something wrong when I initially turned on my computer? Do you think I need to delete everything in my system and reload it? I think I remember a message about ActiveX coming up when I first started working on my computer and maybe I did the wrong thing ... you know ... picked the wrong box. I need help. Thanks again.
