XP Home Edition - CDFS File System Driver is Disabled

Suddenly I'm getting a problem reading discs in my DVD Drive. "Windows cannot read from this disk. Disc may be corrupted or using a format not compatible with Windows." Windows is telling me that the File System is unknown. All discs are CDFS --- Music CDs, PC Games, VCDs, Microsoft XP Home, Norton Antivirus, etc etc

After three days of searching I've come across this: when I look at System I can see that the CDFS File System Driver is disabled. How and Why I don't have a clue

How do I go about enabling the driver ? Thx

Accessing Backpack CD-ROM in Windows NT 4.0 causes: "Volume does not
contain a recognized file system"

When Windows NT 4.0 is installed using the WINNT /B (bootless) option
on computers without an attached IDE CD-ROM drive, the proper Registry
entries for complete CD-ROM access might not be installed correctly on
some computers. If Backpack CD-ROM is installed under those
conditions, the following error could occur when trying to access a
CD-ROM disc within the Backpack:

"The volume does not contain a recognized file system. Please make
sure that all required file system drivers are loaded and that the
volume is not corrupt."


Choose: Start - Settings - Control Panel - Devices
Highlight: 'cdfs'
Click on 'HW Profiles' and if it is set to Disabled, change this to
Enabled.
Shut Down and Restart the computer.


Follow this procedure below only if the steps above do not fix the
problem.

Can't find Devices in Control panel ..

I found this in the MSDN Library ..

Perhaps the XP Service Pack 1 has disabled CDFS so that the DVD-drive is now only recognising UDF - still trying to find out how to enable CDFS again ..

I have xp pro

right click on my computer

click hardware tab and then device manager,

I don't know what home has.

Surely it has similiar functions.

Yes - had a look in Device Manager - CDFS is not listed (perhaps because it's a software, not a hardware) - with the DVD-Drive I've disabled and then enabled again - still have problem ...

I have also the same problem with W XP PRO SP1 . Is this fatal error of Mr. Bill ? Pls help us !!!
