xp detect my usb connected printer

i am running xp and when i plug in a printer it does not
detect it. regardless of the brand. i have tried several
printers with no result. yet i know my usb port is
working fine cause i can use my scanner on that same
port. after going through the process of installing the
drivers for the printers, still nothing no printer is
detected

Hi,

Did you:

...click on start
...click on control panel
...click on printers and other hardware
...click on add hardware
...have XP search for hardware?

See if that picks it up.

That's true, try that first. Also try switching USB Ports.
Then try switching USB Cables. If still no luck, go in to
Start>settings>Control Panel>System>Hardware>Device
Manager and look for Universal Serial Bus controllers.
Delete Everything under that category. Don't worry, they
will be re-added when you reboot, which you do next. Then
expect it to recognize your printer along with any other
USB devices. Good luck, this worked for me with a client
