After working on this for well over 20 hours I found a way to make this printer and any other legacy printer work on windows 7. Sorry I don't have the hyperlinks but here it is.

1. install windows xp compatibility mode this will be a virtual machine that you will run minimized that will control your printer

2. Install the printer in the virtual machine and try printing a test page. if that worked you can proceed to the next step to get the printer to print directly from windows 7.

3. on your windows 7 machine and on any machine you would like to print from install the program "paperless printer", it is a virtual print driver that prints to Google docs

4. on your virtual xp machine with the printer installed make sure you have Google chrome installed and enable cloud printing in the settings under advanced settings at the bottom of the page, and have your printer registered as a cloud printer

if you followed the instructions and goggled for any issues you might encounter, you should be able to print from any computer that connects to the internet and send it to your printer with paperless printer as long as you have Google chrome open in your virtual machine.
