wowexec.exe

Okay, I was stupid and deleted this thinking that it was
spyware. Drinking and computing don't mix, evidently. =)

Anyway, do I need to re-install XP entirely to get this
thing back? Or is there a place I can download it from?
Please e-mail if you can help.

Hi, Mekton.

This sounds like a job for...<TADA!>...the System File Checker!!

At the Run prompt, type: sfc /scannow

SFC will compare each WinXP file with the "known good" copy held in your
on-disk cache and replace any missing or damaged ones. Have your WinXP
CD-ROM handy; SFC will probably need to see it.

By the way, a Google search for "wowexec.exe" turned up this information:
Process File: wowexec or wowexec.exe
Process Name: Windows On Windows Execution Process
Description: Windows On Windows Execution Support Process provides support
for 16-bit Windows applications together with ntvdm.exe

For more, go to the site where I found that:

Hmm, nope, that didn't do it. Apparently it's not a system-
protected file. Crud. :p

So, uh, now what?

If I were to do this, and it sounds like a good idea to do it once in a
while, it will fail because my XP Home came pre-loaded.

So, uh, now what?

From Start, Run, type in "msconfig.exe" (no quotes).

Click on the "General" tab.

Bottom right side.... click on "expand file".

Have your XP CD ready, and type in "wowexec.exe". Send it to the
c:\windows\system32 folder.
