Workstation Service Fails to Start

Hello.

I have a client who is running a desktop system with Windows 2000
Professional SP4. I am unable to get the Workstation service to start on the
system. When I attempt to start the service I get the following error dialog
box:

"Windows could not start the Workstation on Local Computer. For more
information, review the System Event Log. If this is a non-Microsoft
service, contact the service vendor, and refer to service-specific error code
2250."

A quick check of the System Event Log shows the following two entries:

Entry 1-

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Workstation
Event ID: 5727
Description: Could not load RDR device driver.
Data: 0000: 34 00 00 c0 4..A

Entry 2-

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event ID: 7024
Description: The Workstation service terminated with service-specific error
2250.

I am unable to find anything relateing to error 2250 or any useful
information regarding two event log entries.. This appears to be a
long-standing problem on this workstation as entries of this type go back at
least 6 months. As I am only working on a specific project for this client,
I have no idea what may have been done in the past to cause this problem.

Note that I experience the exact same problem when attempting to start the
Workstation service in Safe Mode w/Networking so I do not believe the problem
is being caused by a rogue piece of softare.

Any suggestions on how to correct this would be most appreciated.

Thanks!

I am having the exact same issue. Any one know what the rdr.sys driver is
under win2k server?
2250 is the services error for dependency failed to load even though
workstation says no dep in its list. found that in MS KB

I know nt4 had rdr.sys as a api for the file system but someone said it is
not in w2k as rdr.sys.

ANYbody???

Hi Dan,

Unfortunetly, nwrdr.sys is the NetWare redirector used for Client and
Gateway Services for NetWare, none of which is in use by my client.

I wonder if it would be possible to reinstall the Workstation service.
Perhaps that would also force the reinatll of the redirector in question.

Any ideas?

Check that "Client for Microsoft Networks" is bound to your network
connection.
