wordpad opening .txt files instead of notepad

For some reason wordpad is now opening my .txt files
instead of notepad. I tried to change it by right
clicking on a .txt file and choosing notepad but it's not
in the list anymore. I searched for notepad.exe and found
it in C:/WINDOWS which is where it's supposed to be
right? But I can't figure out why wont it open the files
anymore... any ideas? It's a pain to go to C:/WINDOWS and
open notepad then open the file every time I need to use
it and I don't like wordpad.

A little more detail for you. After finding the File
Types tab and the Extension .TXT in the left column,
click on the line "TXT Text Document". Only then will
the Change option go from grayed out to black so that you
can click on it. Then you can choose Notepad from the
list of programs presented in the resulting window.

Just find a text file in windows explorer, right click it and select Open
With and then Choose program. Find Notepad from the list and select it and
then make sure to check the box that says Always use the selected program to
open files of this type.
