WordCount option to exclude text in parentheses re:Harvard Refere.

Guest

Major Universities use the Harvard Referencing System, used in essays,
journals and the like. Referenced work is enlcosed in parentheses ( ... ) and
does not count towards the total word count. However, the word count function
includes this and leads to an incorrect total for a large number of users in
Academia.

Can anyone help please?

There's no built-in feature to accomplish this, but a possible workaround
would be to use Find and Replace to apply to the parenthetical references a
character style (identical to the Default Paragraph Font) that could, at
need, be formatted as Hidden. When Hidden text is not displayed, it will not
be counted.

This can be done with Hidden font.

A VBA tool derived from this technique is available here: ezcite.sourceforge.net
