Word-XP 'SaveAs' Tools security options

Hi

Can anyone help

We have had to customise the 'SaveAs' command in Word-XP to force Document properites dialog to display (this used to be OK in 2K, but removed by MS in XP). Problem is now we can't apply document passwords via the 'SaveAs' Tools/security options, the dialog diaplays but the settings don't get saved. The only way to apply a password now is via the main menu 'Tools/Option' What can we do to get this working again.

Thanks in advance

Hi Julie

If you tick the box at Tools > Options > Save > Prompt for Document
Properties, then Word will automatically display the document properties
dialog to display the first time each document is saved.

Does that solve the problem and avoid the need to intercept the SaveAs
command?

Hope this helps.

Unfortunately, recent versions of Word prompt for document properties only
when a file is saved the first time. When you use Save As to save an
existing file under another name, you are not prompted for document
properties. I've found files that have been recopied many times that still
have the same title or other properties as the original (very old) file.

Needless to say, this is not a problem if proper templates are used for all
documents, so that all documents are created from scratch, but I venture to
say that there's not a Word user on the planet that doesn't reuse some
documents. Note that using the New: From existing document... option in the
New Document task pane solves this problem (it creates an unnamed document
to begin with, and you are prompted for document properties the first time
you save).
