with Word 2002 type does not match keyboar

Office XP loaded on Windows 2000 Pro system. In Word, the
typed letters do not match the keyboard. What it types is
consistent such as "i" for the letter "l" and "t" for the
letter "s", and when you type "t" on the keyboard you
get "y". Word has been removed and reloaded multiple
times. There are no other programs running. The keyboard
has been changed out to different brands and connections
such as USB and PS/2 but you continue to get the same
results in Word. This is not the case in any other
program on the system.
I'm at a loss.
