Wireless to Wired XP HOME SP2 - Wired cannot access Wireless box

I have just set up a small residential network. One box is a wireless laptop
and one box is a wired desktop. Both boxes have internet access. The
wireless can see and access files on the wired. The wired can see the
wireless, but cannot access it. I receive the following error message when I
attempt to access the wireless:

\\nameofbox is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this
network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you
have access permissions. The network path was not found.

Since you didn't tell us if both computers are XP Home, make it easy on
yourself and do this:

1. Create identical user names and passwords on each box.
2. Share out desired resources.
3. For ease of use, put both computers in the same Workgroup.
4. SP2 enables the Windows Firewall by default. If you are not using a
third-party firewall, enable File & Printer Sharing in the Windows
Firewall Exceptions tab (Control Panel applet). If you are using a
third-party firewall and have properly configured your lan as Trusted,
then disable the Windows Firewall.

Both machines are running XP Home SP2. I have not loaded any software or
added any hardware, they are new Dells out of the box. I have a Linksys
Gatware/switch in garage the PCs are using for internet and network access.
Again, the wireless box can access the wired box. But the wired box cannot
find the path to the wireless.

Of course I enabled File and Print Sharing when setting up the network.
I am not willing to run either PC without a Firewall, therefore disableing
it is not an option.

I just need to know why the wired PC cannot find the path to the wireless
when everything else works fine.

IN XP SP2 you have to enter Start>Control Panel> Firewall... then choose the
execptions tab, then make sure 'File and Printer sharing' is ticked as
enabled.

Did you do as I suggested and make identical user accounts/passwords on
each computer? Are both computers in the same Workgroup (not necessary,
but makes things simpler)? No one is asking you to disable firewalls. I
said you should disable the Windows Firewall if you have a third-party
firewall running. Make sure you have enabled File & Printer Sharing in
the Windows Firewall if that is what you are using.

Wow, thanks for all of the great assistance. I spoke with Linksys tech
support and they assured me the Linksys Gateway was enough firewall. So, when
I disabled the McAffe Firewall I was able to access the laptop from the wired
desktop.

You do not need to disable the software firewall completely, just make
'Printer & file sharing' an exception!

My network works fine like this...
