Can I get a wireless card and use my neighbors internet
provider? He said it was illegal!I told him he should quit
braodcasting into my apt.,and that if I cant use mine
because of his signal from his laptop,I was using his
service. Is there anyway for this moron to adjust his
signal so I can connect my computers on my wireless home
network?

Brad,

Unfortunately, wireless LANs create signals that are available in
areas where we don't want to cover (and omits areas that we do wish to
cover). The fact that your neighbor's signal is available in your
apartment does not imply that he is intentionally broadcasting into
your apartment. Assuming that he is using legal equipment of course.
;)

Your neighbor is entitled to his opinion, however if he truly needs to
protect himself, he needs to use wireless security, namely MAC
filtering and WEP/WPA. If he doesn't use security, he has no enforced
claim on the signal. Even so, if he does not want you using his
signal, you shouldn't.

Can't you configure your equipment to use a different channel, so you
don't conflict with your neighbor?

Cheers,
Chuck
Paranoia comes from experience - and is not necessarily a bad thing.
