Wireless connection doesn't always automatically start up..

I'm using a D-Link 624 router, a Hawking adapter on a desktop and a
truemobile adapter on my laptop all using WPA. Sometimes, but not all times,
when I boot the desktop and/or laptop come up with eithe the red X on the
wireless icon or the yellow exclamation point. I then either have to
manually connect or do a repair respectively. Why can't I get a reliable
connection?

Thanks

The router needs to be powered and completely booted before either
computer is started. If the router is on a common switched power supply
with either computer, separate it. Most leave the router powered
constantly. If you switch the modem, the same applies.
