WinXP SP2 - BSOD with fastfat.sys error.

I have a computer that runs WinXP Home SP2 that gives me a BSOD that says
somthing about 'fastfat.sys' whenever I login. After about 5 atempts the
error doesn't appear. Always before the error occurs, the computer tries to
read from the floppy drive although there's nothing in it. When I disable the
Floppy drive the error seems to disappear.

Can some one please help, because I need to use my Floppy drive!

Without the complete *verbatim* contents of the BSOD error message it
is impossible to give you a precise answer. There are tens of
thousands (at least) of different possible BSOD errors and the vast
majority of these have different causes and therefore different cures.

You did give us the file name involved - fastfay.sys - which indicates
that the problem relates to the hard drive in some way.

So the suggestions that I can give at this point are:

1. Check inside the computer case and make certain that the power lead
and data cable for the hard drive are fully seated. Check both ends
of the data cable (drive and motherboard).

2. Identify the manufacturer of the hard drive. Then go to that
manufacturer's web site and download their free drive diagnostic
software. This will create a bootable diskette which you can use to
boot the computer and run factory diagnostic tests on the hard drive.

If you can provide some additional information regarding the error
message(s) then it may be possible to give more specific advice.

Good luck
