WinXP Pro not booting

Less than a year old Win XP machine has just had McAfee
Firewall (2004 v5.0) installed. I installed the 30-day
free trial of the other McAfee products, namely Virus Scan
and Privacy Protector. The Virus Scan installed OK, but
when the Privacy thing restarted my machine, I think a
virus was released. I can't now get beyond the 'Welcome'
screen. I click on my user name, enter the password and
it loads my settings, displays my normal desktop for a
millisecond and then goes to the 'Logging off' screen.

I've tried all the other boot options (F5), but nothing
works.

Can anyone help me, please?

I had the same problem. If you have your XP CD, restart
your computer and hit 'ESC' before Windows screen appears
to change boot sequence. Select CD drive so that your
computer will search the CD before searching your hard
drive. Then do a repair. This should get you back on
solid ground while still saving your existing documents &
settings. Once this is done, you should run a virus
check & also check for Windows updates.

Whoever you are, thanks for giving me the advice. I
think it's worked - Windows seems to be running OK.
