WinXP logins slow on new WIn2k3 server

I have a new Windows 2003 server installed as a DC. For the users I
have activated Roaming Profiles but when I did it now takes about a
minute and a half for some workstations to go from Login screen to
desktop and in some cases it takes almost 7 minutes!

All of these client workstations are running Windows XP / SP2. Is
there some configuration on the 2003 server that would make this login
so slow? Everything else on the 100K LAN runs fine and their computers
work great once they've logged in. I have not seen this type of slow
performance before on a new LAN (most of my exposure has been with
Win2k servers not 2k3.)

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks,

How's your DNS set up? You should have all clients looking to the AD server
for DNS name resolution (and nowhere else!), with the AD server resolving
all names outside the network via DNS forwarders.

I have the server set up to point to itself for DNS resolution and the
DHCP server is set up to use the AD DC as the DNS server.

Richard,

Sorry it took so long to test this. You hit the nail on the head. This
is the ONLY system we have that is a DC without DHCP running on it
(our normal DHCP config. would have taken care of assigning the DNS
server as the DC.) I manually configured the DNS server settings on
each client workstation and their bootup is almost instantaneous!
Thanks for helping out with this!
