WinDVD 8 Platinum Probelm w/Vista RTM x64

Is anyone else experiencing the following problem with WinDVD 8 Platinum in
Vista RTM x64?

I could not activate WinDVD 8 Platinum (which I purchased online) from Vista
RTM x64 until I ran it as administrator. At least that's what I thought until
the product suddenly quit after 14 days (the trial period). I would not get
any messages at all when attempting to run it.

I removed it and re-installed and at this point, WinDBD 8 Platinum confirmed
that the trial period has expired but I cannot activate it although I have a
valid license.

I have contacted InterVideo about the problem and beyond the auto-generated
confirmation of the receipt of my problem report, I have not heard anything
from them. I'm dismayed by their response considering that I have regularly
purchased their products since WindDVD 5.

I would appreciate it if anyone who has run across this problem and resolved
it would share how they fixed it.

TIA.

Gerry...same problem...after activation the product won't start. Contact to
Intervideo is the same as your problem. Like you, I've been a customer for a
number of years and products, and now with nothing but their automated reply,
i'm annoyed, to say the least.

Hopefully someone has found a solution, because it looks like we'll have to
find our own.

To fix this problem, uninstall Version 8.0.6.72.

There's a new version in the InterVideo site (not that you would be able to
tell since there's no announcement or release notes about it - an InterVideo
SOP based on what others are saying). This is Version 8.0.6.101 currently and
there's no way you can tell until after you download it. The file version
2.11.15.0 is the same as the previous version but it is larger in size.
Install.

You have to run it as administrator in every case (make this the default) -
to activate it and for normal use.

Hope this helps. This worked for me in Vista RTM x64.

Indeed tech support eventually advise me to do this - not that they make it
easy of course....

Gerry and Daron:
Thanks for the help...the 'new' file did the trick. They at Intervideo
certainly didn't do any favors making this easy on all their customers.
Probably has to do with them undergoing their acquisition by Corel.
At least we've got the program working now.
Again, thanks!

At least we've got the program working now.

Watch out for a program called "Install Shield Update Service", this was
auto installed in:

HKLM\SOFTWArE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run as ISUSPM

For me defender warned and warned about this being blocked so in the end I
used 'Autoruns' to untick the activation of that reg key.
