windows xp RUNDLL error cannot load streamci cannot find module

Having replaced the motherboard for the first time since I bought my HP
desktop 5 years ago,,I could no longer use my HP recovery disks in which XP
is intergrated but still was able to reinstall xp using my original product
code, but using a different XP setup cd.
On installation, many system files could not be copied to my computer, but
this was corrected once the updates were done. During installation I got a
RUNDLL error message 'cannot load streamci', though the installation
completed without too much hassle.
Now the error message takes on more significance as I have no sound output
and windows is missing the mixer for the volume controls.
After checking the sound card in the device manager (this device is working
properly) The driver for the soundcard is loaded but not functioning
properly. When I try to reinstall the driver it installs but I get the
errormessage about not loading streamci.
I have also tried installing an independent mixer for windows xp but does
not show up and the mixer that came with the soundcard software (soundcard is
intergrated on the motherboard, an ASROCK 11865-12b).

I suspect a problem on the installation of XP, but cannot find a workaround
as I have reinstalled XP several times each time having to skip the missing
system files, nor can I seem to make a 'good' copy of the XP setup cd.

Is my only option to buy a brand new copy of XP Home Edition?

Any thoughts anyone?

Thanx
