Windows XP control panel. Nothing happens when double click

Hi

I have started to have this problem recently. Every time that I go to the
Control Panel, and I double click on any icon, nothing happens. For example,
If I click on Add/Remove programs, I see the hourglass icon for half a
second and disappears. The Add/Remove window doesn't show up. The same
happens with the rest of the icons.

Any ideas?

Star, did you try switching to Classic View?

You mean the appearance? I have it in Classic. However, I cannot even right
click on the desktop and
click on Properties, because nothing happens.

Star, seems like you problem goes deeper then just the Control Panel. What
does work?
