2 days ago my 5 yr old grand daughter shut my computer down using the start
button on the box. Yesterday I was having problems getting my computer to
start up and would freeze up befor eit got to the windows xp screen. Today it
wont even let me past that after serveral tries but it does let me get into
safe mode. What can I do to get my computer back up and running in normal
mode. Also when I put my disk in when in normal load it doesnt do anything
either. And when I put it in in safe mode it tells me this message:
"Setup cannot continue because the version of Windows on your computer is
newer than the version on the CD.
Warning: If you decide to delete the newer version of Windows that is
currently installed on your computer, the files and settings cannot be
recovered."

I have backdated my computer as well past the point here she shut it down
and still nothing.

Can anyone help me with this

The error message infers that you have XP w/SP2 on the machine and the CD is
either origianl XP or XP w/SP1 - that's the version conflict.

The thing to do is to slipstream the original CD with the SP2 download and
burn a new CD - now being XP w/SP2 (which you would have to do on a
different/friends system) - then a repair install can be accomplished on the
problem system.

A Google search on SLIPSTREAMING would provide info on how to accomplish
same.
