Nothing official has been stated.
Rumors suggest it will be released with Windows Server 2008 early next year.

I heard it has been denied bail, and will remain in prison throughout the
several year appeals process until Blackcomb goes RTM.

***MSFT is Discriminating against the # 13***:

Is there no Building #13 on the Redmond Campus?

What's all this discrimination against the #13 on the part of big ole MSFT?

Is big bad MSFT Redmond Marketers done got sckeeered of lil ol #13?

I done noticed today a whole passle 'o articles on the coming Office 14.
How it done got a full complement of MDM aka Master Data Management in its
CTP comin' first quarter of 2008. It sure seems like Office 2007 released
not to long ago which was Office 12. Master data management is technology
that allows for the management of common reference data across disparate IT
systems or groups. So what's up with ole intrpepid MSFT? Has their
marketers done got afraid of lil ol #13? I know about the Beta of 12. I
know 12 released. Did they slip 13 onto the market and beta it lightning
quick and I done missed it?

Congratulations to the schlumps in the American Congress who did not have a
minute to debate the issues on the War in Iraq but spent a day condemning
free speech critical of it. No discussion of 4 million displaced refugees
who can't get work permits in other countries or into the US (about 150 have
been admitted in the US). No word of Blackwater who kills at will and is
subject to law in no country.

No word of the thousands of Dover coffins filled with dead boddies or the $3
Billion per week thrown away in Iraq. No definiton of what the empty phrase
"winning" actually means when we have no definite opponent but hundreds of
groups who oppose the US presence.

Most of all Congrats to the totally apathetic Americans who have no regard
for the loss of life that will continue to rage in Iraq until a draft is
instituted. That'll stop the chickenhawk Republican cheerleaders who
wouldn't get near service in Iraq and their kids of age to go (almost all US
Senators in this group) on a dime.

does anyone think that SP1 will fix many of the software compatibility
issues within the operating system?
i purchased a new notebook PC over the summer and it came with vista. i
ended up returning the notebook because none of my applications except for
like 5 or 6 worked under vista. and 3 of those applications came
preinstalled. even some of the preinstalled applications had issues along
with over $3,000.00 worth of software that i had.

No, not at all. Why would you think it's up to MS to make 3rd party
software compatible with Vista?
It's entirely up to the software manufacturers to make their software
compatible with Vista. It's not like Vista suddenly appeared all at once
without any advanced notice. It has taken almost 5 yrs for Vista RTM to
appear, which is ample time by anyones calender to develop their drivers
to be Vista compatible.
Short answer is to try and install your software in compatibility mode,
which has proved to be quite successful for many of us!
Although YMMV.

Steven;
Without specifics of your software, your question is impossible to answer.
However it is best if you contact the manufacturers of your essential
hardware and software about Windows Vista compatibility.

While some 3rd party issues may be resolved by SP-1, it is the
responsibility of the manufacturers to do whatever is necessary for their
products if they feel their customers need Windows Vista compatible
products.

If your current computer does all you need, there may be no reason to
upgrade since Windows XP will probably be supported for several more years,
assuming you are currently using Windows XP.

Hi Steve

Compatibility updates are distributed via Windows Update, along with
security and other updates.

If you run Windows Update, and patch your machine to the current level,
you'll have all the existing compatibility updates. You don't need to wait
for SP1 in particular (although SP1 will certainly be worthwhile installing,
once it arrives).

Sorry to hear you're having problems. Some folks have solved their various
compatibility issues in this newsgroup. If (as Matt suggested) you send
along the details, we may be able to offer solutions or workarounds.

(There is a set of compatibility problems for which there seems to be no
solution, so I won't promise the moon. But, ya never know ...)

well i only asked because i beta tested Windows vista and i had less
compatibility issues within the operating system then. now that i am running
the final release i am having more compatibility options and i am running
the same damn applications.

You may possible get help only if you post specific issues you're having.
Posting general frustrations may be cathartic for you but leaves the
rest of us only to guess what exactly you're talking about.

yea, i am running Windows XP. i did purchase a tx1000z over the summer. it
came with vista on it. i returned the notebook in less than a week since the
compatibility of the operating system sucked like heck. thoudands of dallars
worths of my applications did not work in vista, even some of the ones that
were vista capable or vista certified...

after i returned the tx1000z and got the refund for it, i purchased a tc4400
with windows XP on it. i think i'll wait a while to wait a while to upgrade
to vista because of all of the compatibility issues.

the beta version was better with the compatibility dispite certian bugs it
had in it. i beta tested vista on my zd8000. the zd8000 ran a lot better
with vista on it than it did with windows XP on it. yet the tx1000z keeps
having more issues in the os daily than the zd8000 did. who thought that the
beta would be more stable than the final release and i submitted so many
error reports a day...lol thats my opinion of windows vista so far.

well, i'm not trying to get a specific answer out of this post. general
answers and opinions will do on this one.

Too bad nobody can help Frank with his problem. Being a mental midget.

yea... i was not posting a general frustration as he was thinking. i was
just wondering when vista sp1 was gonna come out and i got a few resonses
like i wanted and i am happy about it.microsoft is sortta being a B**** with
vista. they made it look very nice but the compatibility sucks. they need to
take some responsibility in fixing that. sp1 just might fix some of those
compatibility issues. the x64 versions of vista really need it.

Great advice coming from an idiot who can't even get one little install
of Vista business to run properly and yet bills himself as a "computer
expert'.
Tell us all about mr computer expert.
Well...we're waiting!

Yeah, I'm starting to get that feeling too. I don't remember this person
from the beta group. Also none of the betas where as stable as the RTM
is and 3rd party drivers are the sole responsibility of their
software/hardware manufacturers. We all know that. And to not say
specifically which software is having compatibility issues with the RTM
that didn't have the same issue with the betas is rather a stretch in
terms of believable.
But then again, who really cares about one little troll.

If you were a Beta tester for Vista on Connect, then you would already know
about SP1 as the e-mails have already went out and the SP1 Beta is getting
ready to go.
