Windows movie maker video clip preview, thumbnail not showing.

It seems that since i have been sonnected to the interent this problem has
occured but i havent noticed it until today. i must have downloaded something.
When i import my clips into movie maker there are no thumbnail preview
images, the same thing happens when you add it to the timeline. Also, when i
click on the clip this thing called active window pops up with a big giant
image of my clip. once it did play with sound, but now all i can get it to do
is display that one still image. When i click play clip there is just
blackness, no audio no video nothing. I have uninstalled all of the codecs
and such that i have installed and that didnt help. i have a feeling that it
is an enhancement for windows media player10 called DVX which is an audio
enhanceing thing which in my opinion does nothign unless you have like, a
subwoofer. anyway if anyone else has any suggestions i would be extrememly
grateful. i am used to movie maker and would not like to switch over to
anything else.

Let me make some corrections to my last post, i was in a hurry. after
uninstalling dvx i went back to moviemaker and then that window opened when i
click on the clip. the windows reads "ActiveMovie Window" and does nothing
but shows me a picture of the first frame of the clip... again help is
appreciated
