Couple of questions first Kia, if I may.

Are you using Home or Pro Edition?

Are you on SP1 or SP2?

Have you had any other problems in the past upgrading hot fixes/patches
before?

(Quick note - Having used XP since it's release, I've liked almost
everything MS have had to throw out, other than the firewall that comes with
XP, (but then that's down to me, not MS's incapability to produce decent
software) and Windows Media Player 10. Mainly, because of the radio streaming
facility.

WMP9 allowed us to stream music from radio stations for free, just like you
would listening to it in your car, at home, wherever...however in WMP10 iirc
you have to pay for it. It's the only time I've really thought I was being
taken the p!*% out of by an enterprise - hmm, not such a quick note after all)

Anyway, a fix may be to uninstall WMP9 altogether, download the file from
the MS website, and try and install it without going over the top of WMP9.
Just a thought.

Awsum1

go to add/remove programs...(Start\ control panel\ add or remove
programs)...then click on the left side... Add/Remove windows
components.... you may need your windows xp cd....for some reason...

also...

another thing i would try...is..downloading and installing windows
media 10 to a differen't directory....just to test if it works...
