Windows Defender in Vista

I deleted defender,have tried to reinstall, but it says it is part of the
system and will not reinstall. HELP

Was this Vista install an upgrade over Windows XP?

Go to start, accessories, right click command prompt, and choose run as
administrator.

In the resulting command prompt window type
sfc /scannow

and hit enter

You'll probably need to reboot at the end of the process.
