I have the windows vista rtm in my laptop. This morning when I went to switch
on my laptop, when windows vista started up, I saw this error message in my
screen:

"Windows Defender application failed to initialize 0x800106ba... a prolem
caused windows defender service to stop. To start the service restart your
computer or search hepl and support on how to start a service manually".

So, I went to the service screen in the control panel and I tried to start
the service, but I got this another message:

Windows could nnot start the Windows Defender service on Local Computer.
Error 0x8009200d: Not a cryptographic message or the cryptographic message
is not formatted correctly.

can somebody help me???

Hello Pedro,

What is the version of Windows Defender? Please go to Help, about, and post
the top most of the three version numbers there.

Hi,

did anybody find a solution?

Since today I have the same problem on my Vista Ultimate and nobody seems to
have a solution for it.

Since Defender is part of Vista, there is no way to reinstall it and that
seems to be the only valid solution right now (at least with XP).

Thanks in advance,

Jago
