During a quck scan I get the following error dialog:
Windows Defender encountered an error: 0x80508012.

Is anyone else seen this error?

Any fix?

I'm also having this problem, but it's error code 0x8050800c. But it also
happens when I trie to do a scan.
To answer to your questions:
- Its an english XP pro SP2 with all available updates
- It's an update from the previous beta 1
- I already rebooted the system and installed it again.
- user has all necessary user rights (administrator)

I got the same error on 2 machines with Win 2000 Pro SP-4. On both machines
I had Microsoft Antispyware Beta 1 uninstalled first.

On one of the machines yesterday I had the program configured to
automatically scan at noon then I went to lunch. When I returned I started
looking thru the Windows Event logs and found an entry from Windows Defender
which showed that the program started a scan which was completed 2 minutes
later. When I tried again to do manual scans on that machine I had no more
error. I rebooted and the problem on that machine did not come back.

I have yet to get feedback from the user of the second machine whether or
not he can scan now.

When Microsoft will release a patch?

I deleted the two remote desktop servers that Defender had flaged and then
the future scans didn't error out. This is not what I consider a good work
around.

My install was a upgrade to the previous Anti-Spyware.
OS is Win XP SP2

Hiya,

Would these happen to be VNC ? I'm also getting errors on a XP SP2 machine
and thought it may be connected to this.

If you try to run a scan while Windows Defender (Beta 2) is downloading definition updates you may receive the following error "Windows Defender encountered an error: 0x80508012. An unexpected problem is preventing the program from scanning your computer for unwanted software. Try to scan your computer again." Try to run a scan again after the definitions have been updated.
