Windows Defender definitions haven't been updated for xx days

I've installed and run the windows defender beta, and updated the
definitions, but the icon inb the system tray still has an exclamation
against it, and when I activate the program it still says that the
definitions haven't been updated, and each day the number of days is + 1.
I've tried uninstall/re-install already.
Thanks good people out there for coming to my rescue ... SteveX

Engel, I have had the same problem and followed you suggestions. I have
also looked at other posting... and nothing will work... any other ideas?
