Windows 2000 hangs on Internet Explorer using .NET Framework 1.1

I have Windows 2000 Advanced Server with SP4 on a Thinkpad A22e.

I ran .NET Framework 1.0 with this and I could happily log on to the
internet using my internal modem.

Recently I upgraded to .NET Framework 1.1 and since then whenever I log on
to the Internet the whole machine (ie. Windows, Internet Explorer, and
anything else) hangs solid.

I started to un-install applications one at a time until I uninstalled .NET
Framework 1.1. Without this on Windows it works again. Just to prove it, I
put it back (installed) and it hung again.

Why am I getting this strange behaviour?

Anyone have any idea?

Hi Rolf,

These particular hangs are not simple to troubleshoot, because it can also
be caused by a third party applications like Kernel level filter drivers,
anti-virus, etc..

One thing you can try to troubleshoot this issue, would be to completely
uninstall your anti-virus. Then re-install .NET Framework 1.1 and see if
you still experience the hung behavior.

See if the workaround in the following article works for your scenario. If
it does, then call your local Microsoft Technical Support Center and request
the hotfix outlined in the article.

If you feel comfortable developing and/or have the skills and knowledge to
