Windows 2000 Console Session

I have a Server running windows 2000 and I want to login to the console but
when I connect a keyboard and mouse it doesn't recognize it. I know that a
restart will work but is there a way of doing this without restarting the
server?

Windows will recognise a keyboard when plugged
in while Windows is active but not a mouse, unless
it is a USB mouse.

Thank you for your response. I tried plugging in a regular PS2 and USB
keyboard but neither of them work. I can remote into the server but I need
to login through the console.

AFAIK don't unplug them until after the box is started up or use a KVM
switch.
