I cannot start WinDefend. I do not have "sufficient priviledges to start
system services". How do I fix this?

Can you login as an administrator and try typing "net start windefend" in a
command window (Start -> Run -> cmd.exe)?

Similar problem here with XP Pro SP2...
Tried net start windefend:
---
C:\Documents and Settings\administrator>net start windefend
The Windows Defender Service service is starting.
The Windows Defender Service service could not be started.

A system error has occurred.

System error 1812 has occurred.

The specified image file did not contain a resource section.
---
It says the same when I try to open the Executable...

Any idea?
Or is it just because of the "Beta" tag?

I am having the same problem with XPSP2. The programme installed on two of
three computers fine but in the third where I ma the sole user and computer
admioistrator I get the ERROR 1920.

if I type net start windefend I get "the serice name is invalid More help
is available by typing NET HEPMSG 2185"

If I try doing the same thing during the installation proces (after clicking
Windows Defender.msi) the same thing happens

What do I do. I like the way the programme works on my other computers and
would like to have it on all computers.

Thank you for your help.

Have since created a local user called users, had to rename the users group
first, and tried installing it. Same result - still no go.
