Win 2K Service pack 4 setup error

RonR

I am receiving the following message during the
installation of Windows 2000 Pro Service Pack 4:

Service Pack 4 Setup Error:

An error in updating your system has occurred -
Select "OK" to undo changes that have been made, or
select "Cancel" to quit. If you select cancel, your system
will be left in a partially updated state and may not work
properly, When I click "OK", the changes that have been
made are uninstalled and the system rebooted.

Has anyone else experienced the same problem with Win2K
Service pack 4 and is there a way to get around the error
message so the installation completes successfully?

Thanks for your help!

Try this: Stop all the extra Services, Exchange, Norton Antivirus etc, clear
all temp directories and reapply SP4 (after reboot). Be sure to save the
archived Files on a Drive with *at least* 1 GB fee, whenever possible.

Hope this helps. Regards,

Fabio

I have exactly the same error. I tried to install it
several times, from the express or from the network
version, but all failed.

I have received the same error message, and then sp4iis
unable to connect to metabase, and setup failed to remove
all ism.dll script mappings. spsetup will abort. Then it
goes through the whole process backwards. It has done
this almost identically 3 times in a row.

I had the same exact problem. SP4 installation appeared
to run perfectly until the end... when the same uninstall
message appeared.
